December Reading List

We read a LOT of books in this house! Here are our favorites from December:

Steve's favorite was The Rest of the Story.  (Great for reading out loud to anybody who might not be too enthused about reading.)

Robin's favorite was Blessings of a Skinned Knee.  (Definitely not your typical modern "parenting book," which is exactly why I liked it . . . we're not interested in raising your typical modern children.)

Rebecca's favorite was All Quiet on the Western Front.  (And we actually got some commentary from her on this one!  "I liked learning about the German side of war.")

Sabrina's favorite was Elsie Dinsmore.  (She loves series books, and we love that this series is "character building." )

Emily's favorite this month was The ABC Bible Verse Book.  (She can - with heartwarming enthusiasm - now recite two Bible verses!)

We'd love to know what your favorite books were this month!

November Reading List

We read a LOT of books in this house! Here are our favorites from November:

Steve's favorite was The Metallic Cartridge Reloading Manual, Volume 3. (At least he's keeping up with the encouragement to read something!)

Robin's favorite was The Read-Aloud Handbook.  (Highly recommended for any parent or teacher!)

Rebecca's favorite was The Great Gatsby.  (It's set in her favorite time period.  I didn't know that about her . . . talk to your kids about what they're reading!  You'll learn something.)

Sabrina's favorite was All Things Bright and Beautiful.  (This was one of mom's favorites at her age, too!)

Emily's favorite this month was another library book: Rolie Polie Olie.  (Apparently, "Rolie Polie rolled out of bed, brushed his teeth, recharged his head!" is just about the funniest thing she's ever heard.)

We'd love to know what your favorite books were this month!

October Reading List

We read a LOT of books in this house! Here are our favorites from October:

Steve's favorite was The Mark. (We listened to it on CD, and I'm pretty sure the whole family paid close attention!)

Robin's favorite was The Well Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education At Home.  (I'll admit that I didn't read the entire book, but the two-thirds or so of it that apply to my children's ages still qualify as my favorite for the month!)

Rebecca's favorite was Huckleberry Fin.  (Actually, it was the only book she read this month, so it won by default!  She says "it wasn't bad," though.)

Sabrina's favorite was The Giver.  (She probably read ten books this month, so I was eager to hear which was her favorite!)

Emily checked out her first library book this month and loved it!

Good Morning, Chick.

We'd love to know what your favorite books were this month!

Our First Puppies Have Arrived!

Just my luck. Piper ended up needing a c-section. All three puppies are doing really well, though. I was hoping for at least two different colors and ended up with three! The one on the left is a chocolate male with white tuxedo markings. The one in the middle is a cream colored male with a white chest and white feet. (He's my favorite!) The one on the right is a black phantom female. She'll be colored like a doberman. I've never even heard of such a thing in poodles before! We've learned a lot through these three - our first litter - including how to tube feed a three ounce puppy and how to give subcutaneous fluids to something so tiny! Without the advice and help of our breeder and vet tech friends - and the ability of my phone to set multiple alarms for each night - I doubt any of these puppies would have survived. But here we are two weeks later, and Piper has finally figured out that these little creatures are hers (c-sections are apparently quite confusing to first time dog moms) and has taken over most of their care. The littlest one is still getting a couple tube feedings each day, but she's catching up to her brothers in her own time. After all of this, I'm not sure if we'll breed Piper again in the future, but meanwhile, I'm enjoying watching these three grow and figure out their world (well, at least within the walls of the whelping box!).

Three puppies due in another week or so!  Can you find them??  (Hint:  You're looking for spines.)

September Reading List

We read a LOT of books in this house!  Here are our favorites from September:

Steve's favorite was Babylon Rising.  (Actually, it was a toss-up between the four books in the series, but I told him that if I have to limit myself to just one, he does too!)

Robin's favorite was Einstein Never Used Flash Cards.

Rebecca's favorite was Sarah's Key.

Sabrina's favorite was The Coffin Quilt: The Feud Between the Hatfields and the McCoys.

Emily's favorite was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
